This is a finely-made Georgian 15 ct gold and seed pearl brooch. What gives this English antique brightness and light? Despite its age, the double row of pearls has kept its luster, ranging in hue from light cream to silvery white. At the center is a pale blue silk background which adds a bit shimmer when it catches the light. Lastly, the glazed center is clear (not cloudy) and without damage.
This sweet brooch was part of the sentimental fashion trend in jewelry during the 19th century. The enclosed compartment at the center at one point in time might have held a loved one's lock of hair or some other token of love or remembrance. Given to remind the wearer of a loved one, these jewels were most frequently created to commemorate engagements, weddings, and deaths.
Pin it anywhere you want to bring a bit of golden shine: black dress, front pocket of your jeans, or perhaps to your wedding dress (...something blue).
