We always keep an eye out for pretty examples of the classic half-hoop ring. Especially ones with set with bright and lively diamonds.
Popular in the last part of the 19th century and early part of the 20th, the half hoop ring typically has a deeply carved gallery that holds five to seven, prong-set gems. The sides or shoulders of the ring, may also have an engraved pattern. Just as today, there were used as stacking ring or wedding rings.
This is a classic half-hoop. It is in 18 Ct gold with five transitional cut diamonds (approximately 1/2 carat). They stones are graduated from end to center and are often referred to as "boat" shaped.
Due to the cut of the diamonds, and that it is topped with platinum rather than silver, it is most likely early 20th c. rather than late 19th c. The white metal blends with the diamonds and creates the illusion that there is a row of uninterrupted sparkle.
It can be worn by itself, as a stacking ring (stack with other diamond and gem set rings), or as a wedding band.
